今回は近未来が近いと思わせるロボットを紹介しよう。
■夢の自動配達ロボ登場！
スカイプの共同設立者Ahti Heinla氏とJanus Friis氏による「スターシップテクノロジーズ」の発案。
ヨーロッパ5都市で、小型デリバリーロボット「スターシップ」のテストを開始する。
宅配される商品はピザなどリュックひとつ分の商品だ。
宅配時の移動は車道ではなく、歩道を通行するそうでこれまでのテストで事故は一度もない。
それもそのはず、「スターシップ」はコントロールセンターから人間が監視しながら操縦するのだ。
これまでのテストで40万人以上に荷物を届けているらしく、それでも事故が無いのはすばらしい。
ロンドンの配送コストは1回につき約1570円（約12ポンド）かかるそうだ。
これを「スターシップ」に置き換えることで約130円（約1ポンド）に削減できるとの試算がでている。
「スターシップ」が一度通った道は9つのカメラで記録され、ほかの機体とも共有される。
さらに機体にはマイクとスピーカーが内蔵されていて、オペレーター（人間）が受け取る人の質問に答える。
オペレーター1名で最大100台の「スターシップ」を管理できるそうだ。

これまで配達を利用してきた人たちにとってはとても魅力的なのではないだろうか。
なにせ、人が運ばないというだけでプライバシー侵害の心配が減る。
配達される時間も細かく指定できるだろうし、24時間対応されるはずだ。
ただし、利用料金は高くつくと思われるので、お金に不自由していない層が利用するだろう。
芸能人にはうってつけだ。

さて、この「スターシップ」の外観を見る限り、どんな悪路でもOKというわけではなさそうだ。

商品や「スターシップ」本体を守るために武装されることは簡単に想像がつく。
さらに、オペレーターが100台を同時に操作することは難しいだろうから、AIが搭載される事も想定できる。
「スターシップ」は自分で判断し、自衛をするロボットになるはずだ。
配達する「タチコマ」だと考えられる。
■問題は尽きない
配達が自動化されることで、当然人間の仕事がうばわれることになる。
一人が8時間かけて配達していた仕事を、ロボット100台で10分ですませようというのだ。
これまで配達を仕事にしてきた人は「スターシップ」を恨んだりしないだろうか。
ロボットによって職を失う場面は今後も増えていくだろう。
■僕たちはどうしたらいいか
便利で快適な生活には必ず犠牲があるものだが、「幸福」をうばってはいけないと思う。
便利を追い求めるあまり、人間の心をなくしてしまっては、本当の「幸福」は得られないだろう。
人間がより人間らしい生活をするには、やっぱり人と人が直接つながる事が大事なんじゃないだろうか。
